Welcoming and supporting people to learn and enjoy the Welsh language is the aim of the National Centre for Learning Welsh.

The Centre is responsible for all aspects of the Learn Welsh sector, including courses and resources, tutor training and research.

Learn Welsh courses are available during the daytime and evening, face-to-face or in virtual classrooms. You can also study independently, online.

Courses are available at different learning levels - whether you're new to the language or already speak some Welsh.

Courses are delivered by a network of providers on behalf of the National Centre for Learning Welsh.

This free course, Croeso: Beginners' Welsh, is taken from Croeso, a beginners' language module that concentrates on Welsh as a tool for communication, but it also provides some insights into Welsh societies and cultures through printed and audio materials. It will be of interest to all those who want to improve their language skills in order to communicate more easily and effectively in Welsh. The course focuses on basic greetings and introductions, numbers and days of the week. By the end of the course you will have gained confidence in communicating in Welsh, and you will be able to understand language used by speakers from different areas of Wales. You will develop the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Welsh.

The first Menter Iaith (Welsh language initiative) was founded in 1991 in the Gwendraeth valley, Carmarthenshire. The rest quickly followed and there are now 22 Menter Iaith in Wales.

CorCenCC is a language resource for Welsh speakers, Welsh learners, Welsh language researchers, and indeed anyone who is interested in the Welsh language. CorCenCC is a freely accessible collection of multiple language samples, gathered from real-life communication.

Job Access With Speech, is the world’s most popular screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications on your PC. You will be able to navigate the Internet, write a document, read an email and create presentations from your office, remote desktop, or from home.

We developed these voices with text-to-speech software company IVONA, thanks to funding from the Welsh Government.These voices will make a real difference to blind and partially sighted Welsh speakers and learners. Because of the previous lack of a Welsh language "voice" of the same standard, people who rely on screen reading software to use computers haven't been able to effectively read websites, exchange emails or read or write documents in the Welsh language. The voices are available free to both individuals and non-commercial organisations, and we expect a significant level of interest from schools and colleges wanting to access the voices to support their learners.

The purpose of this website is to provide a public translation memory sharing service for translators who translate between Welsh and English. Public bodies and others who wish to provide translation memories and share them openly can upload their memories to this website, and translators from other bodies, organisations and companies can download them and use them within their translation environment themselves.

The Vocab plugin recognises words from dictionaries such as Cysgair and the Education Thesaurus in the text of your website, and underlines them. After installing the program, users will be able to see full dictionary entries by moving the mouse over underlined words.
